First a disclaimer, do this at your own risk as it may damage the printer drum. Now with that out of the way, on some brands of Brother laser printers, the toner has a sensor on the side that tells the printer how much toner is left in the cartridge. At a certain point, the printer will tell you the toner is empty and you need to replace it. It has become known that the toner really still has quite a bit of toner left. If you cover the sensor up with a piece of dark tape such as electrical tape, it will trick the printer into thinking the toner is full and let you continue printing until the toner is really empty. The reason it can damage your drum is, eventually you will run out of toner and drum will be trying to print without toner and that is bad. So if there is a last minute deadline paper that needs to be printed and you don’t have time to run out and buy toner, this trick might just save your day. I do suggest you don’t run it long with the tape on the sensor and replace the toner when you can. There is a great youtube video by pkok3 shows you how it works.
